NO JARGON REIKI By Caitriona Doyle (March 2009) What on EARTH is Reiki? It's known as a SPIRITUAL energy and described as a hands on healing using Universal Life Energy but in our bodies how do we feel it and in our lives what difference does it make? Let's look at its physical faces. It makes the oceans pound, wind howl, seasons change - gives physical life to the body, life to our emotions, thinking and soul (that part of us that is spiritual in our physical bodies and connects us to the 'Greater Than' as you perceive it) It is the underlying principal of all creation. We recognise it on a daily basis in terms of how we feel. Reiki is one of the names given to this energy. How does it work? Let's make an analogy - you buy a new television which can provide many channels but until they are tuned in you won't receive them. It's the same with Reiki, we access more of this energy when a Reiki practitioner tunes us in to its frequency. Energy is downloaded from the Universal Generator through a tuning-in process to our individual life batteries, known as an attunment. Personal Experience Four years ago I fell on glass resulting in a palm laceration. I received forty stitches to the palm, severed nerves from the wrist to the top of my thumb and index finger and had a muscle removed from my hand. Medical prediction was that the nerves would never fully regrow and it would take a year before I 'would raise my head above water'. Many things contributed to my healing - great surgery, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, acupuncture, reflexology and I did six hours Reiki daily directly into the injury. I gauged the nerve re-growth by the movement of the reiki in my hand. Where the flow of energy stopped in my hand was the distance the nerve had regrown. Reiki travels through the nerves. Much to medical amazement I was back working in five months and a year later full nerve re-growth. Reiki is indeed a 'hands on healing' using Life energy, working practically in our lives and not a Crystal Ball in sight!
